Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) has signed two power supply agreements with newcomer EvoEnergi Inc., marking a strategic move to deliver both conventional and renewable energy to the contestable retail electricity market.
The agreements, facilitated through MGEN’s subsidiaries MThermal and MGreen, are expected to supply enough electricity to power approximately 62,000 households.
MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio said the partnership demonstrates the strength and flexibility of their diversified energy portfolio.
“This partnership with EvoEnergi reflects the strength of MGEN’s diversified energy portfolio,” Rubio said.
“By combining conventional and renewable sources, we are helping meet the evolving needs of the retail electricity market while supporting the country’s transition to a cleaner and more secure energy future,” he added.
EvoEnergi, a newly licensed retail electricity supplier (RES) affiliated with D&L Industries Inc., enters the sector with an industrial heritage and a clear sustainability focus.
The company is among the first RES participants in the Philippines to implement the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), allowing businesses to consolidate electricity demand for greater purchasing leverage.
The agreement will also help EvoEnergi fulfill its Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) obligations, which mandate energy suppliers to source a portion of their supply from renewables.
“With our expanding customer base, this partnership provides access to a more diversified and sustainable energy supply,” said Alvin Lao, President and CEO of D&L Industries, Inc.
“It solidifies our shared commitment to sustainability and forging a better future for the Philippines,” Lao added.
The deal extends MGEN’s renewable energy footprint beyond government-led initiatives such as the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) and the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP).
The partnership underscores growing demand for flexible energy sourcing in the contestable market, where customers can choose their supplier under the Philippine government’s retail competition and open access (RCOA) framework.
It also highlights the role of private-sector innovation in accelerating energy transition and improving energy access for business consumers.
