Memphis Grizzlies waive Derrick Rose

The youngest Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the NBA is yet to find another home when the upcoming season kicks off.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Derrick Rose, one of the most explosive guards to ever set foot in the NBA hardwood, was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies from their official roster with only a month remaining until the 2024-2025 season begins.

Rose was supposed to stay until this year when the Grizzlies offered him a two-year deal ahead of the 2023-2024 NBA season.

He was guaranteed a $3.4 million salary this year, but sudden tweaks in the Memphis front office booted Rose out of their lineup.

It wasn’t a smooth ride for the injury-plagued Rose as he only managed to suit up in 24 games for the Grizzlies last season.

The daredevil floor general averaged eight points, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 rebounds, one of his career lows regarding stat sheet contributions.

Rose’s campaign with the Grizzlies didn’t transcend to what was expected by the management after he suffered a back injury that kept him out of the lineup in the final month of the regular season.

Aside from dealing with back problems, Rose was also diagnosed with an injury in his left hamstring that required rehabilitation.

As of now, Rose and his camp are yet to negotiate with other NBA franchises as player acquisitions are about to close.
