Mayor orders immediate clearing of roads

BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia ordered on Sunday the immediate clearing of roads and waterways that are obstructed by felled trees and electrical posts in the aftermath of super Typhoon Odette.

Leonardia echoed his directive in an emergency meeting and told city government offices including officers of the Department of Public Services, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, IPM-CDC and Task Force Disiplina.

This developed as the CDRRMO, earlier in the day, reported that its operatives already handled about 60 felled trees that pose danger to motorists and passersby.

The mayor called for an emergency meeting Dec. 18 with concerned agencies to discuss and map out their plan of action at the Bacolod City Government Center.

An action center, to be based at the Bacolod City Government Center will be set up to oversee and manage the clearing operations.

“We need to clear our roads as soon as possible to ensure the safety of our people especially those who are travelling,” Leonardia said.

He also explored the possibility of “replanting” the big trees that were uprooted by Typhoon Odette. (Story and photos from PIO)
