Mayor charged for ‘illegal quarry’

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Capiz Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) formally filed charges against Mambusao town Mayor Leodegario Jun Labao Jr. for his alleged participation in an illegal quarry operation at Barangay Manhoy, Dao town.
CaPENRO Head Atty. Emilyn Depon said charges for violation of Republic Act 7942 (Philippine Mining Act) and Municipal Ordinance 11-2017 (Revised Revenue Code of the Province of Capiz) were filed against Labao before the Provincial Prosecutors Office.
To recall, Force Kabalaka 6K and members of the CaPENRO caught a backhoe and a truck owned by the mayor conducting alleged illegal quarrying in Brgy. Manhoy.
Labao was also charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1829 or Obstruction of Apprehension and Prosecution of Criminal Offenders after he intervened in the operation of CaPENRO.
Meanwhile, reports indicated that Labao is also preparing to file charges against Depon for continuing her private law practice even if she heads CaPENRO.
