BACOLOD CITY — The 46th MassKara Festival concluded with no major crimes reported, according to the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), marking the 19-day celebration as generally peaceful.
Authorities attributed the calm and orderly festivities to enhanced law enforcement, strong community support, and proactive security measures.
While a few minor incidents occurred outside festival areas — including one physical injury case, five theft cases, and one homicide — all were swiftly handled by police, the PRO-NIR said.
“This record highlights the success of intensified police visibility, efficient crowd control, and strategic coordination among security forces and partner agencies,” PRO-NIR stated.
Traffic-related incidents included eight cases of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and seven cases of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries, which were quickly managed by traffic enforcers and emergency responders.
Throughout the festival, police operations also led to notable accomplishments reflecting the effectiveness of the agency’s comprehensive security efforts.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported that 23 anti-illegal drug operations resulted in the confiscation of 1,615.824 grams of shabu valued at PHP 10,987,603.20 and the arrest of 34 individuals from October 1 to 19.
Meanwhile, two operations were conducted in line with the enforcement of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The campaign against illegal gambling also intensified, resulting in eight successful operations.
Additionally, 16 operations for the arrest of wanted persons were carried out, leading to the capture of one most wanted person and 15 other wanted individuals.
Police Col. Joeresty Coronica commended the professionalism of the nearly 2,500 security personnel deployed and thanked the public for their cooperation.
“Our record during the festival reflects the discipline of our personnel and the active support of the Bacolodnons and visitors who celebrated responsibly,” he said in a statement.
During the festival’s closing and awarding ceremonies at the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, October 20, Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, and Mayor Greg Gasataya recognized the efforts of security forces and augmentation units.
