Marcio Lassiter eclipses Jimmy Alapag to become the PBA’s All-Time 3-point king

History has been made.

Marcio Lassiter is now the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) three-point king.

Needing only three trifectas to rewrite the PBA history book, Lassiter buckled to work in the first quarter of their one-sided victory over the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on September 15, 2024.

After hitting his first two shots from downtown, Lassiter put the whole crowd on their feet when he pulled up from the top of the key in the 7:12 mark of the first, swishing his third attempt to officially cruise past Jimmy Alapag as the PBA’s All-Time leader for three-pointers made.

Lassiter’s inspired performance wouldn’t end there, as he continued to torch the Gin Kings with three more three-pointers, ending the game with six drained treys to cap off his 18-point performance.

That six successful three-pointers increased his trey tally to a total of 1,254, overtaking Alapag’s previous record of 1.250.

Several months ago, Lassiter was already on track to break Alapag’s record after eclipsing Allan Caidic for third place all-time.

With his consistent shooting from the rainbow area this import-laced conference, Lassiter only needed five games to inch closer to Alapag.

After capturing the record, the PBA gave honor to Lassiter, awarding him with the feat. Present during the ceremony was his family and commissioner Willie Marcial.

“When you get one to fall, you kind of feel like the next one is going to fall. My teammates were looking for me,” said Lassiter after setting the new PBA record.

Aside from capturing the three-point king feat, Lassiter’s explosive performance led the Beermen to a dominant 131-82 victory over their arch-rivals, the Gin Kings.

The flawless win helped San Miguel hike its PBA Governor’s Cup win-loss record to 6-2, while Ginebra fell to 5-3.
