Eumir Marcial was promoted by the Philippine Air Force after winning the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics boxing men’s middleweight division.
From his airman first-class rank, the prized boxer is now a sergeant with a base salary of more than 31,000 pesos.
Marcial’s promotion came after weightlifting gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz’s acceleration from sergeant to staff sergeant.
Air Force commanding general Lieutenant General Allen Paredes led the pinning ceremony of Marcial to make his promotion official.
Since 2013, Marcial was already serving for the Air Force and is under the organization’s Civil Military Operations Group.
The pinning ceremony was held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport where Marcial also arrived last Monday after a successful campaign in Tokyo.
Marcial fell short of a silver or gold medal finish after crashing out of the men’s middleweight semifinals against Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine.
