A 29-year-old man is in stable condition after he allegedly stabbed himself inside their house in Guimbal, Iloilo, on the morning of Nov. 19.
Police said the family of alias Jun called for assistance around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
They said the victim, who was allegedly suffering from an undisclosed mental illness, was found bloodied when police arrived at their home in Barangay Cabasi, Guimbal.
Captain Melvin Mercado, Guimbal police chief, said Jun initially refused help from responding officers.
“There was resistance but we later managed to get him out of the house and bring him to the hospital,” he said.
Mercado said Jun sustained a stab wound to his abdomen and was treated at Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal.
The Department of Health reminded the public that individuals experiencing mental health issues, or those who know persons at risk of self-harm, may seek immediate help through mental health crisis hotlines.
