BACOLOD City – Parricide charges were filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office here yesterday against a 58-year-old man who killed his wife at their house in Barangay Yao Yao, Cauayan, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Eduardo Mediona was arrested by police and military in a forested area of Purok 1 in the said village on Thursday afternoon.
Major Lowell Garinganao, town police chief, said Mediona hid in the area after he slit his wife’s throat with a bolo at the height of their argument over the non-renovation of their house.
Garinganao said the suspect was sighted by residents around 10 a.m. last Thursday but he ran and was cornered by authorities around 4 p.m. through the help of barangay officials and village watchmen.
Garinganao said the suspect told the police that he committed the crime when he got angry after his wife, Precilla, 50 who kept on asking him about the money she sent supposedly for their house renovation.
“Pag abot ka asawa niya, ila balay wala matandog, kag daw wala gid sila may napundar bisan gina padal an siya kwarta. Sa sige nila away, na impito man guro ang suspect,” the police chief added.
Garinganao said the incident was witnessed by their two children, and one of them stood as the complainant of the case.
He said the weapon used in the crime was not recovered. “Basi gin haboy niya sang nagapalagyo siya,” he added.
The couple had a series of arguments when the victim came home from Manila in December 2020 after working there for two years.
The victim stayed at her daughter’s house and returned home on January 13 when the incident happened.
