Man who ‘killed’ lover’s husband arrested

A man accused of murdering his former lover’s husband was arrested morning of May 8 in Pototan, Iloilo, almost a year after he allegedly committed the crime.
Leo Sapelino, 50, of Barangay Jamabalud, Pototan, Iloilo, was collared at Dawis village around 9:10 a.m. Monday.
Members of the Pototan Municipal Police Station and operatives from the different units of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) served Sapelino an arrest warrant for murder in Criminal Case No. 23-10649-A.
Executive Judge Vicente Go of the Regional Trial Court Branch 68 in Dumangas, Iloilo, issued the warrant on April 27, 2023.
Sapelino was accused of killing Danny Asuelo at the latter’s house in Barangay Dawis evening of May 17, 2022.
A single bullet to the neck claimed the life of the 44-year-old Asuelo.
According to reports, the victim was watching television with his 13-year-old daughter when they heard the incessant barking of their dogs.
Inday (not her real name) claimed her father stood up and checked. She later heard gunfire.
The teenage girl claimed she found her father slumped near their front door with a gunshot wound to his neck.
Asuelo was rushed to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town but was declared dead on arrival.
