A criminal charge is now being readied against a 38-year-old man who allegedly killed his older brother in a knife attack evening of March 18, 2023 in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Ivan Jarloc, a resident of Barangay Lupa, Sta. Barbara fled after stabbing his brother, 43-year-old Elvin Jarloc.
Ivan remains at large as of this writing.
According to witnesses, Ivan stormed Elvin’s house around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday while the latter was drinking liquor with some friends.
The two had an altercation after Ivan confronted the victim over a water pump concern.
Shortly later, the suspect went home. But it wasn’t long before he went back armed with a knife.
Elvin allegedly parried the attack by punching Ivan.
They then grappled for the knife until Ivan overpowered his older brother. He then repeatedly stabbed Elvin on the different parts of his body.
Major Jose Rey Pabalan, Sta. Barbara police chief, said the victim suffered at least eight stab injuries.
He was rushed to Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital (WVSGH) in Sta. Barbara town but was declared dead on arrival.
Pabalan said a certain Dan Sudario, Elvin’s drinking buddy, also suffered a stab injury on his left arm after he tried to pacify the brothers.
Police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation but the suspect escaped.
Pabalan said Ivan has been sending surrender feelers through his live-in partner.
