A 31-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his older brother on the evening of March 15 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Alias Manuel, 31, of Barangay Nueva Union, Passi City, was apprehended in a hot pursuit operation more than two hours after the knife attack.
Reports said that while the victim, 40-year-old Noel, was at the house of their cousin, Lorly, the suspect barged in.
An argument ensued between the two until Manuel pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the lower back and right arm.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Passi City rushed the victim to Don Valerio Palmares Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City, but he was later transferred to Western Visayas Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
Master Sgt. Roderick Larida, Passi City police investigator, said there has been conflict between the brothers in the past.
However, it was not clear what directly caused the altercation when the incident happened.
Larida said the situation could have been aggravated because both were under the influence of alcohol.
It was not known if Noel would file a case against his brother.
Under the Revised Penal Code, frustrated or attempted homicide and serious physical injuries are among the charges that may be filed in stabbing incidents, depending on the severity of the wounds and the intent established during the investigation.
