Man stabs drunken brother to death over misunderstanding

BACOLOD City – A misunderstanding about a dog led to the death of a man who was stabbed by his older brother in Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Friday.

The body of the victim identified as 35-year-old Ronnie Enriquez, was found the following day.

Police Lieutenant Colonel John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said that Ronnie, who was drunk on Friday night, went to the house of his brother Freddie, 48.

A heated argument then ensued between them when Ronnie confronted Freddie about the allegation that he killed the latter’s dog, the police chief added.

Due to the behavior of the victim, the suspect allegedly shot him with an improvised cannon or “boga.”

Luckily, Ronnie was not hit, but they figured into a commotion until they fell into a hole.

They then grappled for Ronnie’s bolo until Freddie was able to grab it and stabbed the victim, Batusbatusan said.

Police recovered from the crime scene a 26-inch bolo and two improvised cannon or “boga.”

Batusbatusan said the suspect later surrendered to a barangay official but he was released from police custody yesterday after the family decided not to press charges against him.
