A young man who was asking her girlfriend’s hand for marriage was stabbed dead evening of Dec 28, 2020 in Igbaras, Iloilo.
Reymart Eusuya, 20, a resident of Barangay Catiringan, Igbaras, did not pull through due to a lone stab wound on the right side of his chest.
Eusuya was proclaimed dead on arrival at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.
Responding policemen subsequently arrested the suspect, 38-year-old Rolly Gorero, who hails from Zone 1, Barangay La Paz, Hamtic, Antique.
Gorero had been staying at Catiringan village for a year and worked for a game fowl farm.
Police reports indicated that Eusuya was having drinks at the house of barangay tanod Alex Moren, the father of Eusuya’s girlfriend Anjanet, when the incident happened.
Moren said that the suspect came uninvited and shortly later attacked the victim with a knife for no apparent reason or cause.
Moren, who was seated next to Eusuya, was able to interfere and prevented the suspect from further attacking the victim.
JEALOUSY
It was earlier assumed that Gorero could have been jealous of Eusuya.
But Eusuya’s fiancée, Anjanet, said that the suspect was not pursuing her, or at least not vocally.
Anjanet, a single mother, claimed that the suspect used to borrow and play with her 2-year old child.
“Pero wala man sya naga-prangka,” she said.
Meanwhile, the suspect claimed he went to the Morens after hearing his name being talked about.
Gorero said the victim allegedly attacked him with a knife but he pushed him.
Unfortunately, the knife hit Eusuya’s chest.
But Moren claimed he saw that Gorero was unprovoked when he stabbed the victim.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged accordingly.
