BACOLOD CITY – A drinking session among relatives turned deadly after a man was stabbed to death and two others were injured, including a 12-year-old girl, in Barangay Sag-ang, La Castellana, Negros Occidental early Monday.
Police Maj. Melchor Patna-an, chief of the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as “Junery,” 40, a laborer.
His 12-year-old niece sustained injuries during the incident.
According to police, Junery was invited by his second cousin to join a drinking session with other relatives, including the 40-year-old suspect identified as “Lemuel.”
Due to intoxication, a misunderstanding erupted between Junery and Lemuel, which escalated into a heated argument.
The suspect allegedly took a kitchen knife and stabbed Junery in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.
Patna-an said the minor was hurt while trying to pacify the fight.
The suspect, who also sustained injuries, was arrested by police.
Authorities recovered a knife at the scene.
Both the suspect and the minor were brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City.
Meanwhile, another man died and two others were injured after a tricycle they were riding fell into a canal in Barangay Pandanon, Murcia town on Sunday.
Police Capt. Honey Labaro, chief of the Murcia Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as “Gregorio,” a resident of Barangay RSB, La Carlota City.
The injured passengers were “Edson,” of Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City, and tricycle driver “Renz,” also of La Carlota City.
Labaro said the three were heading home from an outing when the speeding tricycle swerved left and lost control.
They were thrown from the vehicle while approaching a curved road, she added.
