A 48-year-old man was killed after being stabbed 21 times by his stepdaughter’s live-in partner in San Miguel, Iloilo, early morning on Sept. 10.
The victim, identified only as “Albert,” was asleep in the living room of their home in Barangay Sto. Niño when he was allegedly attacked around 3:30 a.m.
The suspect, identified as “Ian,” 37, a native of Bicol province, reportedly stabbed Albert repeatedly using a bladed weapon.
Albert’s wife, “Inday,” told police she witnessed the attack and saw Ian on top of her husband, stabbing him multiple times.
Prior to the incident, Albert, Ian, and a man known as “Panot” had been drinking together starting at 8 p.m. on Sept. 9.
A misunderstanding later broke out between Ian and Panot, prompting Albert to intervene and allegedly assist in manhandling Ian.
Captain Bryan Alejo, San Miguel police chief, said the suspect may have temporarily lost consciousness during the scuffle.
When Ian regained consciousness, he reportedly went home, packed his belongings, and later went to Albert’s house, where his stepdaughter and her child were also staying.
Ian told Inday that he came to fetch “Kat-Kat,” his live-in partner’s daughter from a previous relationship, who was sleeping in the couple’s room.
Inday went inside to get the child, but when she returned, she saw Ian attacking her husband, who was lying on the couch.
Alejo said Albert tried to defend himself by reaching for an empty bottle but was too weak to fight back.
Ian fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Inday told police that Albert and Ian had not been on good terms since Ian and his live-in partner returned from Metro Manila to settle in San Miguel.
She claimed Albert had often scolded Ian for letting her, an elderly woman, handle all the household chores—including cooking and laundry—while Ian and her daughter slept in and waited for breakfast.
Inday said the suspect had no job, while his live-in partner worked at a local eatery.
