BACOLOD City – A man died while his 14-year-old son survived a gun attack at Sitio Bahulay, Barangay Camalanda-an, Cauayan, Negros Occidental last Monday.
The fatality was identified by police as 42-year-old Jose Remy Pabores of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Raffy Billones, deputy police chief of Cauayan Municipal Police Station, said that Pabores was walking towards the house of his brother when an unidentified gunman who was later identified as Joel Epogon, shot them.
Billones said that Pabores and his son were able to run but the victim was hit in his back twice, causing him to fall to the ground. His son was unharmed.
Pabores was declared dead on arrival at Sipalay City Health Office.
Billones said that the victim’s son identified the gunman after he saw him allegedly pointing a gun at them.
Pabores was the target since he was allegedly being suspected by Epogon as the one who reportedly informed authorities about his whereabouts in the area, Billones said.
Upon checking with Sipalay City Police Station, Billones said they learned that Epogon had a case for illegal possession of firearms there.
Billones said they are looking into grudges as possible motive behind the killing. The suspect is still at large.
