Man shot dead in Silay

BACOLOD City – A man died after he was shot by a person who initially had a misunderstanding with the victim’s father at Barangay Guinhalaran, Silay City, Negros Occidental last Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Ramil Castillo, 22, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay City police chief, said Castillo’s father and his sibling were drinking liquor in a store when the suspect identified as Danilo Datoon of Barangay Kapitan Ramon passed by them.

Castillo’s father and Datoon then allegedly accosted each other, Darroca said.

Based on the statement of the victim’s family, Datoon went home to his temporary residence in Barangay Guinhalaran.

He was allegedly armed with an improvised 12 gauge shotgun when he chanced upon Castillo, Darroca said.

Datoon and Castillo reportedly figured in a commotion, leading to the shooting incident. He allegedly shot Castillo’s left armpit.

The victim was later found in the dimly lit portion of the street and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Darroca said that Datoon escaped, leaving behind the firearm he used in the incident. He will be charged with homicide.
