BACOLOD CITY – A 22-year-old man died in a hospital on Monday, hours after he was allegedly mauled by two relatives in Barangay Bata on Sunday night.
The victim was identified only as “Pao-Pao,” a resident of the same village.
Police Capt. Rondyl Tapang, chief of Police Station 3, said the incident began when the live-in partner of the victim’s uncle accused him of stealing clothes.
The woman, identified as “Jessa,” and her 17-year-old brother reportedly attacked the victim following a confrontation outside their homes.
Tapang said a brass knuckle, allegedly used by one of the suspects, may have caused the victim’s fatal injuries.
The incident was reported to police on Monday afternoon, prompting a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of both suspects later that day.
Jessa is now detained at Police Station 3, while her minor sibling has been turned over to the Social Development Center (SDC).
Homicide charges are being prepared against the two suspects.
Tapang added that although there were prior rumors linking the victim to theft, no formal complaint had been filed with police.
Authorities have yet to recover the weapon used in the alleged attack.
