BACOLOD City – A man was beaten to death by unidentified persons at Hacienda Carmenchica, Barangay DSB, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental last Monday.
Police identified the victim as Jerry Eduardo, 23, of Barangay Antipolo.
Lieutenant Rowell Peniero, deputy chief of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, said Eduardo came from a drinking session with some friends before going to a funeral wake in Barangay RSB, La Carlota City.
Peniero said the incident happened when the victim was on his way home.
Police initially received a call for assistance in a traffic incident as Eduardo was believed to be a victim of a hit-and-run incident.
But they later found out that the victim was mauled, based on his statement to his sister when he was taken to a hospital.
He died from his injuries hours later.
Police believe that the suspects picked on the victim.
“Na trippingan daw siya pero wala siya kahambal sa utod niya if sin-o ang mga tawo nga naghimo sini sa iya,” Peniero said.
