BACOLOD City – A land dispute allegedly triggered a man to kill his relative and hurt two others in a shooting incident at Sitio Pantao, Barangay Pandan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Lieutenant Donie Magbanua, deputy police chief of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Ana Oñas, 43, who was believed to be pregnant.
Wounded were Georgelyn Linigao, 51; and Jesselino Duaban, 55.
Magbanua said the three victims were on their way home around 8PM, when the suspect identified as 41-year-old Pedro Oñas allegedly shot them.
Oñas then fled with 39-year-old Nelson Espadera.
Magbanua said Oñas probably waited for the victims to pass by the area.
Magbanua said that Ana, who celebrated her birthday two days ago, suffered gunshot wounds on her abdomen and right leg. She died on the spot, he added.
The two other victims suffered a gunshot wound each in their abdomens and were taken to a hospital in La Carlota City, but were transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here. They are now in stable condition.
Police recovered from the scene two fired cartridges of .45-caliber ammunition.
Magbanua said Espadera was invited for investigation to determine his participation in the crime, while Oñas surrendered to the police the following day.
He said that Oñas was positively identified by the two wounded victims. He will be facing murder and two counts of frustrated murder charges.
