A quarrel during a liquor drinking spree led to the death of a 72-year old man in Lemery, Iloilo.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Dec 5, 2021 when the victim, Gaudioso Arevalo, attended the birthday party of his neighbor at Barangay Agpipili.
Lieutenant Francis Batallones, Lemery police chief, identified the suspect as Mon Robert Imbien, 32, also a resident of Agpipili village.
Imbien’s mother is Arevalo’s niece. He fled after the incident but voluntarily turned himself in around 6 a.m. Monday.
Batallones said both Arevalo and Imbien were invited to the party hosted by Jerry Cervas at his house.
They were drinking liquor with some friends prior to the shooting episode.
Imbien allegedly advised Arevalo to go home after the latter was already drunk. This did not sit well with Arevalo until a heated argument ensued between them.
With their quarrel still unresolved, the victim went home only to go back later armed with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Witnesses said Arevalo aimed his weapon at Imbien.
But before he could pull the trigger, Imbien drew a caliber .9mm pistol and shot the victim.
Arevalo was hit on the left side of his abdomen and thighs.
He was rushed to Sara District Hospital but was declared dead at 8:20 p.m.
Batallones said an autopsy would be conducted while criminal charges are being prepared against Imbien.
