TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE
A 35-year-old jobless man was reportedly hurt following an alleged suicide attempt on Oct 19, 2022.
Members of the Iloilo City Emergency Responders (ICER) were called to treat alias Randy, a resident of Leon, Iloilo, who was billeted at a motel in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz, Iloilo City.
The man allegedly slashed his wrist with a piece of broken beer bottle.
He reportedly called the lodging house’s operator around 12:20 p.m. and asked for help.
There were reports that he was with a woman when the incident happened.
But Major Jose Val Ladublan, Iloilo City Police Station 3, said the victim was alone when police responded to the scene.
When the ICER team arrived 10 minutes later, he was found lying on the bed unconscious with blood oozing from his left wrist.
Ladublan said he was too drunk after consuming several bottles of beer.
He said the man’s wife was working abroad.
Police did not give other details except that the man checked in at the motel on October 12.
It was not yet known what triggered Randy to take his own life.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health has constantly reminded those who have problems or those who knew individuals who are at risk of committing suicide that they could seek help in mental health crisis intervention:
