BACOLOD City – A man who was wounded by a stray bullet in a shooting incident at Barangay 2, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Thursday expired at a hospital several hours later.
Police Major Mark Angelo Junco, city police chief, said that Danilo Dollentes, 47, of Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, died while being treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound on his chest.
Danilo and his wife, Rowena, 47, were eating inside a restaurant when they were hit by a stray bullet after three unidentified gunmen arrived and shot their target Nole Mercado, 48, of Barangay Rizal, who was buying fruits outside the dining establishment.
Junco said Rowena suffered a minor gunshot wound in her arm and is in stable condition now. Unfortunately, her husband did not survive.
He said they still have no lead on the identities of the perpetrators.
Police said the shooting might be drug-related as Mercado was identified as a high-value individual who was arrested for a drug offense in 2018 but was released through plea bargaining.
