WHAT seemed to be a petty quarrel led a 31-year-old man to violently attack his elder brother evening of May 16, 2019 in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as Salvador Padecio, Jr., 32 and a resident of Barangay Lagubang, Barotac Nuevo town.
He was proclaimed dead immediately after he was brought to Don Jose Sustiguer Monfort Medical Center Extension Hospital in Barotac Nuevo town.
The suspect, Francis Val Padecio, 31, was arrested after the gun attack.
Police Captain Kenn Albert Lepsia, Barotac Nuevo police chief, said the Padecio brothers were both drunk when they met at their fathers house at Lagubang village.
The two had a confrontation over past misunderstandings.
The confrontation turned into a heated argument until the suspect drew a caliber .32 pistol tucked in his waist.
Francis Val then shot his brother thrice hitting the latter in the right side of the neck, chest, and back of his body.
Lepsia said the suspect kept shooting at the victim even though the latter was already down.
Responding police officers arrested Francis Val as he was turning his gun at his father.
The brothers father claimed the victims had a long-standing grudge but did not expect a fatal conclusion.
Lepsia said the brothers parents already told police officers that they will not pursue any charge against Francis Val.
But Lepsia said they would file a case against the suspect for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and the Omnibus Election Code.
