BACOLOD City – Jealousy forced a man to allegedly kill his wife inside their house at Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental early Tuesday.
Police identified the victim as Delbeth Laurente, 40.
Lieutenant Joemel Salarda, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Delbeth was sleeping around 1AM when her husband Saler hit her head with a hammer.
Salarda said the 44-year-old suspect accused Delbeth of having an affair.
Salarda said Saler suspected that his wife had a lover, and that the latter was waiting outside their house.
“Gapaminsar siya na patyon daw siya sang asawa niya kag sang laki, that’s why nahimo niya ato,” he added.
Salarda said Saler took his five children to his sibling’s house and admitted to killing Delbeth. He then surrendered to the police through the help of the barangay officials.
Salarda said the couple’s children did not witness the incident as they were also asleep.
Salarda said Saler, according to his children, has not eaten for five days and was just drinking liquor.
“Alcoholic daw siya kay kung indi siya mabaklan ilimnon kag kung indi pa siya makuntento, gapasingit siya,” he added.
Salarda said the suspect even physically abused his wife whenever he is drunk, but the latter chose not to have it reported to the authorities.
“Gina agwanta niya lng guro, tapos gin dudahan pa siya,” he added.
Salarda said Saler is detained at the police station and will be facing parricide charges.
“Desidido ang family to file charges against him. As of now, indi pa siya mayo ma storya. In layman’s terms daw lost siya,” he added.
