A 50-year-old man is now behind bars after he allegedly killed his younger brother in a bolo attack early Wednesday evening in Janiuay, Iloilo.
The suspect, identified only by the alias Rene, 50, a resident of Barangay Barasalon, Janiuay, allegedly hacked his 42-year-old brother, Jerry, after a petty misunderstanding.
Reports said the victim and the suspect were seen walking from the village proper to the suspect’s house.
When they arrived at Rene’s house at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, the victim allegedly stabbed the suspect in the shoulder.
A struggle for possession of the weapon followed.
Rene then allegedly punched the victim and ran to their house to get a bolo.
Janiuay police chief Capt. Marlon Perez said Rene returned to where the victim was and hacked him three times.
Jerry sustained injuries to the face.
He was no longer taken to the hospital.
Jerry’s body was brought to Dionel’s Funeral Homes in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, where the town’s rural health officer declared him dead at 2:30 a.m.
Barangay Kagawad Joey Ardiente placed Rene under citizen’s arrest before the suspect was turned over to the Janiuay Municipal Police Station.
Police investigators said drunkenness was the apparent motive in the incident.
