Jealousy may have triggered a 56-year-old man to allegedly kill the purported lover of his estranged live-in partner.
The incident happened 6:30 am of August 30 as the 48-year-old victim Martin Madoginog was driving his motorcycle at Barangay Bolo, Maasin, Iloilo.
Police received the report an hour later and didn’t immediately confirm who shot Madoginog. Authorities invited some persons of interest including the suspect, Rolando Maderse.
Investigators knocked on Maderse’s home at Barangay Tubang, Maasin. The area is just adjacent to Sinubsuban village where the victim resided.
Staff Sergeant Andres Perez, Maasin police investigator, said it didn’t take long for Maderse to admit that he shot Madoginog a few hours back.
Reports said that Maderse was able to get wind of the victim’s routine and ambushed the latter with a gun.
Madoginog was hit on the forehead and left hand. He instantly died.
Perez said that Maderse and Madoginog had their share of non-violent confrontations in the past after the suspect’s 43-year-old live-in partner left him for the victim.
The couple has two children – 5 and 7 years old – who are now in Maderse’s custody.
Maderse and his estranged partner had talks with the municipal special welfare officer to discuss their children’s custody.
Madoginog was also married but chose to live with Maderse’s partner.
His wife later filed a case against him for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).
Perez said a case for murder might be filed against Maderse today, September 1.
