BACOLOD City – A man was killed in a gun attack at Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Slain was Leonardo Garcia, 34, of Barangay Minoyan, and temporarily residing at Barangay Sta. Rosa, police said.
Lieutenant John Paul Tabujara, head of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the victim was sitting outside the house of his mother along with his 10-year-old child when an unidentified man on board a motorcycle arrived to buy gasoline.
After buying from Garcia, the customer repeatedly shot the victim who ran and asked help from his wife and mother inside their house.
Police recovered from the scene four cartridges of .45 caliber ammunition.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body and was declared dead on arrival at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.
Tabujara said they already have a person of interest, adding that they are looking into family conflict as possible motive.
Tabujara said they learned that the victim and his family previously reported his brother-in-law to the police for allegedly engaging in illegal drugs.
His brother-in-law was also recently arrested for illegal possession of firearm but was released on bail, the police chief added.
Tabujara said they have yet to identify the gunman who was not a resident of the village.
