Man found dead in Roxas City drainage canal

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A 26-year-old man from Mambusao, Capiz, was found in a drainage canal in Barangay Bolo on Saturday morning, Sept. 19, and later declared dead at a hospital, police said.
Police identified him as “Neil,” a resident of Barangay Bato Bato, Mambusao, who was temporarily staying in Sitio Patag, Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City.
Lt. Col. Rogelio Tomagtang Jr., chief of the Roxas Component City Police Station, said in a media interview that an eatery owner saw Neil walking alone around 4 a.m. that day.
According to Tomagtang, Neil was exchanging text messages with his live-in partner about celebrating his birthday at home that day.
The police chief said Neil was intoxicated and apparently failed to notice the drainage canal before falling into it.
Neil was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Police retained custody of his cellphone.
Police said they found no indication of foul play in his death.
