BACOLOD City – A man drowned to death at Himoga-an river in Barangay Fabrica, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Jojie Ayo, 33, of Barangay Paraiso.
Investigation disclosed that the victim was allegedly seen swimming in a shallow portion of the said river. However, he suddenly submerged into the water and did not surface, possibly due to the excessive weight of his backpack.
Authorities noticed a smell of liquor from the victim when he was rescued, according to the police.
Ayo was taken to Alfredo Marañon District Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
