BACOLOD CITY — A 39-year-old man died, while three others were injured in a multiple motorcycle collision along Araneta Highway in Barangay Tangub here Sunday night.
Police identified the fatality only as “Alexander,” a resident of Barangay Singcang-Airport here.
Police Maj. Ramel Sarona, head of the Bacolod Traffic Enforcement Unit, said Alexander reportedly tried to overtake a taxi but miscalculated and returned to his lane, sideswiping another motorcycle that was tailing him.
The second motorcycle, carrying two riders on their way to Cauayan, Negros Occidental, fell to the ground.
The third motorcycle allegedly lost control and ran over Alexander, who was already lying on the ground after falling from his motorcycle.
Sarona said all of them were wearing helmets, but Alexander succumbed to serious injuries an hour later in a hospital.
The three other victims suffered minor injuries.
Sarona said all parties had an initial settlement.
He added that the driver of the third motorcycle would be released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention if no charges are filed against him.
