Man dies in hit-and-run, two others injured

BACOLOD City – A man died while two others were injured in a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Mabini-San Sebastian Streets in Barangay 33 here Sunday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Mario Garcia, 55, of Murcia, Negros Occidental.
Wounded were tricycle driver Alexander Mabilog, 33, of Barangay Taculing; and passenger Roschel Dela Tore, 37, of Barangay Vista Alegre here.
Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 6, said Mabilog was supposed to send his two passengers home from Libertad market around 4 a.m. when the tricycle was allegedly hit by a white van driven by an unidentified man.
The van was allegedly speeding when it happened but the driver did not stop, he added.
Mabilog suffered minor injuries while Garcia did not survive. Dela Tore is confined at a hospital.
Bonilla said they have no lead yet on the identity of the van driver but Mabilog is detained at the police station after one of his passengers died in the accident.
He (Mabilog) will be released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention period, Bonilla said.
