A man faces a frustrated homicide charge after allegedly attacking his uncle with a sugarcane bolo in Barangay Cabalabaguan, Mina, Iloilo, on the evening of March 30.
The case was filed before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, March 31, against alias Intsik, 31, also a resident of Cabalabaguan.
Lt. Redan Octaviano, Mina police chief, said the victim, Melecio, 50, was already inside his home at around 9:25 p.m. when Intsik and a cousin passed by. Melecio was reportedly muttering something that the suspect mistook as directed at him.
Intsik then entered his uncle’s house uninvited and struck him with an espading, a bolo used for cutting sugarcane.
Emergency responders rushed Melecio to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan.
Intsik was arrested in a hot pursuit operation shortly after. Octaviano said the two had no prior conflict and pointed to drunkenness as the likely trigger.
Intsik remains in the custody of the Mina Municipal Police Station pending disposition of his case.
