Man arrested over single mom’s stolen underwear

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Authorities arrested a man accused of stealing a single mother’s underwear Thursday night, July 9, in Angelville, Barangay San Jose.

Police identified the owner of the underwear as alias “Analyn,” 44, a resident of the area.

The suspect was identified as alias “Jocel,” 38, a resident of Maayon, Capiz.

Analyn said the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. while her yellow underwear was hanging outside the house.

She said her son was sitting on the terrace when the suspect allegedly grabbed the underwear and ran away.

The family immediately reviewed security camera footage and identified the suspect’s face, Analyn said.

They then informed barangay watchmen stationed at a nearby outpost.

With the help of residents, the suspect was apprehended at the San Jose crossing toward Barangay Jumaguicjic while riding a Rusi motorcycle.

He was later turned over to the Roxas City police.

The suspect was carrying a duck, locally called an “itik,” when he was apprehended.

When questioned by police, the suspect denied wrongdoing and claimed he had gone to the housing village to visit relatives at Block 59.

Analyn said she was puzzled as to why the suspect was allegedly interested in her yellow underwear, which her daughter had given her as a gift in January.

Analyn decided to pursue a complaint against Jocel.

She said police told her that the stolen underwear was not considered “valuable” and was of low monetary value.

The suspect was placed in the custody of the Roxas City police, along with the motorcycle and the duck.

Police later released him after the reglementary period for detention had lapsed.
