Man arrested for stabbing uncle in Concepcion

A 27-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his uncle early evening on May 6 in an island barangay in Concepcion, Iloilo.

Alias Rufino, a resident of Look Bukid, Barangay Taloto-an, Concepcion, was arrested in a hot pursuit operation in the same village.

He was accused of attacking his mother’s brother, 57-year-old Edgar, at the latter’s house in Barangay Taloto-an at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Before the stabbing, Rufino and Edgar were drinking liquor at the victim’s house.

The two had a misunderstanding that led to a heated argument.

Capt. Johnny Oro, Concepcion police chief, said police were initially told that the argument stemmed from a land dispute.

Other reports, however, indicated that Edgar wanted to cut down a tree.

Rufino reportedly refused, arguing that the tree was on his mother’s lot.

The suspect allegedly left the drinking table, only to return shortly after.

He then allegedly stabbed his uncle multiple times in the lower torso.

Rufino fled after the incident but did not leave the island.

He was arrested by responding police officers from the Concepcion Municipal Police Station.

Rufino is now detained pending the filing of charges against him.

Police said the case will be referred to prosecutors for appropriate action.
