Man arrested after Ivisan gunfire, suspected shabu seizure

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Police arrested a 47-year-old man Monday evening, Aug. 10, after he allegedly fired a gun and was later found carrying an allegedly unlicensed firearm and suspected illegal drugs in Barangay Malocloc Norte, Ivisan, Capiz.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Jorge,” a resident of the barangay.
An initial investigation by the Ivisan Municipal Police Station found that officers received a call around 7:25 p.m. from a police officer assigned to Roxas City police.
The caller reported that a person was indiscriminately firing a handgun near the house of the suspect’s mother in Barangay Malocloc Norte.
Responding officers allegedly caught the suspect crossing the road while carrying a homemade 12-gauge shotgun loaded with one round of live ammunition.
The police account did not explain the discrepancy between the reported handgun and the shotgun recovered from the suspect.
Police said officers also recovered one sachet of suspected shabu while frisking him.
The suspect remains in the custody of the Ivisan Municipal Police Station while police prepare complaints for the alleged illegal discharge and possession of a firearm under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Police are also preparing a complaint under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
