Man allegedly kills older brother in Moises Padilla

BACOLOD CITY — A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his older brother after intervening in a commotion involving their father at their home in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.

According to the police investigation, the victim, 36, identified as “John,” had just finished dinner with his father when he reportedly punched and kicked him.

Maj. Ryan Villasario, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said the suspect, identified as “David,” tried to calm his older brother. John allegedly attacked David, who retaliated with a bolo, Villasario said.

The brothers struggled over the weapon before David allegedly hacked and stabbed John, killing him, according to police.

Villasario said the family reported that John had a mental illness and had attacked family members on previous occasions. However, he said there was no medical certification confirming the reported condition.

The family decided not to pursue charges against David, Villasario said.

The family’s decision does not, by itself, prevent criminal prosecution over the death. Under Philippine rules, criminal actions are prosecuted under the direction and control of a public prosecutor.
