Man allegedly burns house after argument with wife

KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occidental — A 47-year-old carpenter allegedly set his house on fire after an argument with his wife in Barangay Hilamonan shortly after midnight Thursday.

Police said the man and his 42-year-old wife, identified only as Lyn, had a heated argument inside their home.

Lyn later left with their children and went to their daughter’s house for safety.

While Lyn was at her daughter’s home, the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, was reportedly seen by their daughter setting the nearby house on fire.

The blaze quickly spread through the structure and caused an estimated PHP 60,000 in damage.

The Bureau of Fire Protection responded, but the house had already been destroyed before firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Barangay officials found the suspect at the scene and later turned him over to authorities.

In a radio interview, the suspect denied the allegation and said he had no intention of burning the house.

The incident was referred to the Bureau of Fire Protection for further investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
