The Barotac Viejo Police Station is preparing a rape case against a 38-year old man who was accused of sexually molesting his 16-year-sister in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo City.
Captain Ken Albert Lepsia, Barotac Viejo police chief, said the incident happened a couple of days ago in one of the town’s most remote villages.
It was allegedly the first time that the suspect, the oldest of the brood, sexually assaulted their youngest sibling at a hut near their family’s home.
The man is single while his sister is a high school student.
The suspect used to bring different women to their house prompting his mother to caution him against it.
This led him to build a temporary home where he allegedly brought his visitors.
Lepsia said the victim reported the incident to police authorities a day after the alleged sexual molestation happened.
She was still writhing in pain, an investigator said.
The victim already underwent a medical examination where it was found that she had fresh wound on her genitals.
Lepsia said they conducted follow-up operations for two days to arrest the suspect, but he managed to elude them.
In Western Visayas, almost a third of rape cases that happened while the region was on community quarantine were perpetrated by those who are closely related to the victims.
Records from the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 indicated 307 rape incidents from March to September 2020.
The number, though, is lower compared to 403 cases of the same period last year.
Of the 307 cases, 99 are either incest (21 cases) or committed by a husband/lover (11 cases) and relative at 67.
A greater number, 231 cases, or 42.67 percent, of rape were committed by other persons known to the victim.
Only 77 incidents had strangers as suspects.
As to the place of occurrence, 221 cases happened at either the victim’s or the suspect’s residents while only 86 are lumped as “other places.”
