BACOLOD CITY – A closed-circuit television (CCTV) video has gone viral on social media, capturing the moment a man abandoned a newborn baby girl inside a parked jeepney in Barangay Zone 8, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday night.
The footage, uploaded anonymously and widely circulated on Tuesday, shows the man carrying the infant as he approaches the rear of the vehicle.
After checking the surroundings, he discreetly places the baby—wrapped in cloth and with the umbilical cord still attached—inside a box in the jeepney shortly after 7 p.m.
A nearby resident later heard the baby’s cries and discovered her inside the vehicle, prompting her to take the child to a hospital.
The infant is now under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The video has sparked emotional reactions online, with many netizens expressing sympathy and concern for the abandoned child.
Local police have reviewed the CCTV footage but have not released further details as the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities have yet to identify the man or the baby’s parents.
Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares said in a media interview that he is aware of the incident and has assured a thorough investigation is underway.
A barangay official said it was the first time such an incident occurred in the area and speculated the man may not be a local resident.
