A sexagenarian farmer was arrested for a rape charge morning of Dec 7, 2020 in San Joaquin, Iloilo.
Sixty-nine-year-old Jovelino Espinosa, a widower, offered no resistance when policemen nabbed him at his home in Barangay Tiolas, San Joaquin, around 9:00 a.m. of Monday.
Joint elements of San Joaquin Police Station and the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company (IPMFC) collared Espinosa by virtue of an arrest warrant for rape under Article 266-A (2) of the Revised Penal Code. The case is docketed as Criminal Case No. 3487.
Judge Nelita Jesusa Bacaling of the Regional Trial Court Branch 72 in Guimbal, Iloilo, issued the arrest warrant on Nov. 12, 2020.
A bail bond of P200,000 was recommended for his temporary liberty.
Lieutenant Dionisio Estacio, San Joaquin police chief, said the suspect looked surprised when police served the arrest warrant against him.
“Wala daw siyang alam. Wala daw siyang natanggap na summon or kahit na anong court notice,” Estacio said.
Espinosa denied sexually molesting a nine-year old girl. The girl’s grandmother pursued the case against the suspect.
Meanwhile, another elderly farmer was also arrested for a molestation case.
Alex Loquinario, 68, was arrested at his place at Barangay Barangbang, San Remigio, Antique around 7 am on Dec 7.
He was apprehended by the virtue of a warrant of arrest for acts of lasciviousness in Criminal Case No. M-PSY-19-00345-CR.
Judge Allan Ariola of the Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 48c National Capital Region, Pasay City, Metro Manila, issued the warrant on Feb. 7, 2019. A P36,000 bail was recommended for the suspect’s provisional freedom.
