BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday that the Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary will re-open to the public after Holy Week.
Holy Week runs from April 10, Palm Sunday, to April 16, Black Saturday.
Lacson said he met with Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena and she requested that the capitol-owned resort hold a soft opening first.
This means the resort will not yet allow overnight stays, he added.
Lacson also said that overnight accommodations will be available soon once they have completed repairs on the facility’s electrical systems.
He also said that they have not discussed the operation of the hotel inside the resort but hinted that they will invite popular cafes in the province to set up shop inside the resort.
Lacson earlier said that minor adjustments will be made on the rates once Mambukal reopens to the public.
The resort was closed in March 2020 during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and served as a quarantine facility for more than a year before re-opening to the public in December 2021.
A few weeks after its re-opening though, the resort was forced to close down again due to extensive damage caused by super typhoon “Odette”.
