Dallas Mavericks franchise player Luka Doncic didn’t get an ideal NBA training camp start after suffering a left calf contusion injury announced on October 3, 2024.
The Mavericks announced the news on their official social media pages and added that Doncic might be sidelined for two weeks depending on his progress.
“The Dallas Mavericks announced today that Mavericks guard Luka Doncic sustained a hit during workouts this week resulting in a left calf contusion. Doncic will be re-evaluated as necessary in one week,” posted Dallas.
According to the management, Doncic received an unintentional hit to his left calhd ruing a practice session, which caused pain and bruising.
Dallas head coach Jason Kidd talked to reporters regarding Doncic’s update and stated that he is not expecting him to be back in the early phase of the NBA preseason.
The Mavericks will be making their NBA preseason debut on October 8, 2024, against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies.
Kidd and the rest of the coaching staff are not expecting Doncic to play and added that it is best for him to heal his injury to get back on track.
Dallas is coming off an NBA championship trip that marked the end of their 13-year NBA Finals drought, making them one of only 10 teams ranked fourth or lower to reach the league’s grand stage.
Doncic was spectacular during the whole 2023-2024 NBA season after averaging 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds per contest.
He also finished third in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting last year behind trophy winner Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
