Luka Doncic’s intensive offseason training and conditioning paid off when basketball fans saw his leaner, more defined physique during Slovenia’s international friendly against Germany on Aug. 9, 2025.
It was Doncic’s first game since the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs last June.
Despite the layoff, the Slovenian star posted strong numbers, but they weren’t enough to save Slovenia from a 103-89 loss.
In just 24 minutes, Doncic had 19 points on 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range, along with five assists and three rebounds.
He said he was on a minutes restriction as part of Slovenia’s preparation for the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket campaign.
Much of the postgame buzz focused less on his performance and more on his noticeably improved conditioning.
Doncic received loud cheers from the crowd as he emerged from the tunnel and quickly went viral on social media for his slimmer frame.
A month earlier, Doncic revealed he planned to spend the summer improving his wellness, adopting a gluten-free, low-sugar diet.
According to Men’s Health, he consumes at least 250 grams of protein daily and drinks an almond milk–infused shake to fuel his circuit workouts.
He also underwent specialized training in Madrid under fitness coaches Anze Macek and Javier Barrio, who began by assessing his balance and agility using a force plate — a device that measures the force an athlete generates against the ground.
“Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better,” Doncic told Men’s Health. “This summer was just a little bit different. It kind of motivated me to be even better.”
With two months left before the new NBA season, the Lakers are expected to field a sharper, more focused Doncic as they aim for a deeper playoff run.
