CAUAYAN, Negros Occ. – The 21st Lubay lubay festival here kicked off today Tuesday with an Agro Trade Fair showcasing the products of 25 barangays.
A boodle fight highlighting the town’s shrimp produce was served as lunch of the guests and the locals alike.
Cauayan Mayor John Rey Tabujara said this year’s theme “Lubay-Lubay Festival At Its Finest this 21st” is designed to be better and grander than the previous years’ festivities.
He said the subsidy for the participating barangays in the street dancing competition was increased and that bigger prizes await the winners this year.
The 25 barangays were clustered into 9 groups that will compete in the highlights of the festival on Jan 25.
Tabujara said various activities were scheduled for the whole week to entertain the locals and visitors.
He also said that while most of the festivities in other areas centered on the Sto. Niño, Cauayan’s festival is honouring their patron saint San Pablo.
Lubay Lubay is from the term lubay which mean resiliency, said Tabujara.
He added that Lubay Lubay festival depicts the resiliency of the Cauayanons through the years.
