LTO suspends driver’s license of Indian national in road mishap

The Land Transportation Office 6 (LTO-6) has suspended the driver’s license of an Indian national who figured in a road incident which killed a health worker on May 24.

Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan, LTO-6 assistant regional director, confirmed that they served a show cause order against Harjinder Gill and the order suspending his driver’s license for three months.

If Gill fails to explain his side of the incident, there’s a possibility that his driver’s license would be permanently revoked. He was given five days to answer.

A possible revocation of the license might be a big blow on the suspect since he is into the car trading business, on top of his money lending dealings.

 

‘JUSTICE FOR JARDIO’ 

Family, friends, and even complete strangers called for justice for Henry Jim Jardio, the motorcycle rider who was killed in the hit-and-run incident involving Gill late evening of May 24, 2020 in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

Jardio, 30, a radiology technologist at Amosup Seamen’s Hospital Iloilo, and resident of Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao district, was supposed to marry his fiancé on June 13, his birthday.

The victim was navigating a turnaround at Pison Avenue in Barangay San Rafael when the Toyota Altis sedan driven by Gill encroached his lane and hit the victim’s motorcycle.

After the incident, the suspect fled with security personnel of Atria District chasing him.

Gill drove to Barangay Tabucan where he again hit another motorcycle as he was driving up the approach of Carpenter’s Bridge bridge going to Molo district.

The motorcycle was driven by Bonn Seann Sanz of San Jose, Molo; John Chasmer Tupas of Barotac Viejo, Iloilo; and Jane Ricaforte of Kalibo, Aklan.

The three survived the crash.

 

OUT ON BAIL 

Gill was released from detention after posting bail two days after the incident.

He reportedly posted P72,000 for the case involving Jardio for “reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with failure to lend a hand on the spot to the victim.”

He also posted another P90,000 bail for “reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injury and damaged to property” for the Carpenter’s Bridge incident.

It was gathered that Gill is a holder of a special resident retiree’s visa.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) issues the SRRV under the Retirement Program of the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA).

It entitles the holder to multiple-entry privileges with the right to stay permanently/indefinitely in the Philippines.

Despite being reported to be drunk during the time the incidents happened, Gill might not be held liable for violating Republic Act No. 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013) as he was not subjected to breath analyzer immediately after the incident happened.
