The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) will launch public education and enforcement activities from May 19 to 23 in observance of Road Safety Month.
The activities are part of the Department of Transportation’s nationwide “Drive to Protect: Safe Streets, Safe Children” campaign.
The initiative also supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to promote road safety across the country.
Led by LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the agency has intensified efforts to enforce traffic laws and advocate for safe roads.
In a meeting held Wednesday, LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II, Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu, and Regional Law Enforcement Chief Relin Reyes finalized the schedule of events aimed at raising awareness of traffic rules and reducing road crashes.
“This Road Safety Month, let us strengthen our pledge to safeguard every road user,” Geduspan said.
“By obeying traffic laws, wearing proper safety gear, and practicing responsible driving—especially among student drivers and those with provisional permits—we can reduce fatalities and make our roads safer for all,” he added.
Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A designates May as Road Safety Month in the Philippines, with the national slogan “Commit to Life.”
One of the highlights is the Road Safety Motorcade Parade on Monday, May 19, featuring LTO enforcers, accredited rider groups, driving schools, and other stakeholders.
Geduspan will deliver the opening address, followed by a regional road safety pledge led by Conlu.
On May 20, region-wide seminars on road safety and defensive driving will be held, with sessions tailored for motorcycle riders.
Hands-on demonstrations and evaluations on safe motorcycle practices will be led by LTO-certified trainers.
LTO-6 will also conduct road safety seminars for public utility bus and jeepney drivers.
A culminating program to honor outstanding participants and reinforce the campaign’s key messages is scheduled for Friday, May 23.
Throughout May, LTO-6 will continue its road safety advocacy by offering free theoretical driving courses to qualified applicants.
The office will also implement its nationwide DISKK plan—Disiplina, Kaayusan, at Kaligtasan—and conduct random roadside inspections to check vehicle roadworthiness.
Social media campaigns, educational material distribution, and continuous highway patrols will support the initiative.
“Everyone is enjoined to do their share in promoting road order and safety,” Geduspan said.
“Together, we can save lives and protect property through responsible road behavior,” he added.
