LTO-NIR probes Bacolod patrol vehicle no-parking incident

BACOLOD CITY — “Rules apply to us, too.”

The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) made the statement as it urged personnel to follow the same traffic rules and regulations they enforce among motorists.

LTO-NIR Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Jeck Conlu acted on a concern involving an agency patrol vehicle reportedly seen parked in a no-parking zone beside the Bacolod Public Plaza while personnel conducted a roadside inspection and information drive on the proper use of improvised plates.

Conlu said the driver involved was directed to submit a written explanation and was temporarily relieved of driving duties pending an investigation and appropriate action.

“No one is above the law—not even those tasked to enforce it,” the agency stressed in a statement, underscoring its commitment to accountability, discipline, and road safety.

The LTO-NIR assured the public that concerns involving its personnel are taken seriously and will be addressed through due process.

The agency also urged all motorists, including government personnel, to observe traffic laws, respect road signs, and lead by example on the road.

The LTO began stricter nationwide enforcement Sept. 1 against fake and unauthorized improvised plates, with violators facing a PHP 5,000 fine and possible vehicle impoundment.

Meanwhile, the agency recently issued a show-cause order to a transport operator over a passenger complaint.

The complaint alleged reckless driving, arrogant and discourteous conduct, and refusal to drop off a passenger at a designated stop during a public transport trip.

A passenger posted about the experience on social media, and the post reached the attention of the LTO-NIR.

The LTO-NIR Intelligence and Investigation Unit served the show-cause order in Barangay Granada, where the operator’s authorized representative received it.

The agency said the order is part of its continuing commitment to protect commuters, promote responsible public transport service, and hold transport operators and personnel accountable while ensuring that all parties are afforded due process.
