LTO-6 seeks permanent license revocation over Aklan road death

ILOILO CITY — The Land Transportation Office-Region 6 has sought the permanent revocation of the driver’s license of a 24-year-old motorcycle rider over the death of a road safety advocate in Aklan province more than three weeks ago.

The move came after LTO-6 found alias “Maynard” administratively liable for reckless driving in the crash that killed motorcycle vlogger and photographer Gerald Carel Roldan, better known online as “Petix Akean.”

In a five-page resolution dated Sept. 18, 2026, LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II recommended the perpetual revocation of the rider’s driver’s license, on top of a fine under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.

The ruling came less than three weeks after Roldan died in a road crash at around 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 along the national highway in Barangay Pudiot, Tangalan, Aklan.

Reports said Roldan was riding his gray motorcycle toward Poblacion, Tangalan, when his motorcycle collided with Maynard’s black Kawasaki 1000cc motorcycle.

Police cited CCTV footage showing five big bikes overtaking or counterflowing vehicles before reaching the crash site, with Maynard among the riders.

As the group approached, Maynard allegedly veered into Roldan’s lane.

Roldan tried to evade the oncoming motorcycle, but the two bikes collided in the slow lane, where Roldan had the right of way.

Both riders were thrown onto the highway.

Roldan did not survive the crash.

In reaching its findings, the LTO-6 Intelligence and Investigation Unit reviewed CCTV footage and sworn affidavits from riders who were present during the incident.

An eyewitness identified Maynard as the rider who repeatedly overtook vehicles and eventually entered Roldan’s path.

Another witness said he saw in his rearview mirror that Maynard was outside his lane and appeared to be speeding.

Police investigators also found that the crash occurred on a stretch of road marked by a solid white line, where overtaking is prohibited.

Shortly after the fatal crash, Geduspan imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on Maynard while the case was under investigation.

After evaluating the evidence and the respondent’s defenses, Geduspan issued the Sept. 18 resolution recommending permanent revocation, the highest administrative penalty sought in the case.

LTO-6 noted the bitter irony in Roldan’s death because he was not only a motorcycle rider but also a photographer, moto vlogger and road safety advocate.

Roldan used his online platform to promote discipline, responsibility and safer driving and had supported LTO road safety campaigns and initiatives.

Geduspan, together with LTO Kalibo District Office Chief Engr. Marlon Velez and Atty. Seymour Pulvera, recently visited Roldan’s wake to personally extend condolences to his family.
